BARAZA LA TAIFA

Baraza La Taifa (BLT) is social justice movement established in the 2018 by a section of founder and ordinary members of Bunge La Mwananchi, members from East Africa Climate Change Network based in major towns within Kenya.

VISION, MISSION, VALUES AND OBJECTIVES

VISION

A society that respect mother earth and its transboundarly geosphere.

MISSION

To advance and promote social justice agenda towards achievement of equal opportunity and equal chances for individual and collective success.

CORE VALUES

BTL core values were developed to guide the movement in its struggle, to attract others sharing these values and to serve as the very basis of BLT’s existence.

·        There is an ultimate Source of all creation and of all universal and absolute values such as Truth, Beauty, Love and Justice, which represent the highest ends of human actions. Many people call this Source, God.

·        The highest responsibility of BLT members is to pursue absolute values and to promote economic and social justice in his or her personal life and all associations with others.
·
·        That all sovereignty in the social order begins with the human person not institution including the family, the state, religion, the business, corporations, the labor union or academia.

·        That the essential means to achieve the sovereignty of the person include such inalienable human rights as the right to life, liberty, and access to productive property and free markets, equality of opportunity. These rights- including the rights of property-are not ultimate ends in themselves, but they are intermediate ends or fundamental means to enable each person to pursue, truth, Beauty, Love  and Justice.

·        And that for social justice to be part of the fabric of society, the people must be afforded the right and legal mechanism to investigate, impeach, convict and/or jail their political leaders for incompetence, corruption and/or unlawful behavior.

·        That people create tools, shaped from the resources and energies of nature or society to support the economic and social sovereignty of the person. Through private property ownership, each person can become master of the technology needed to realize his or her fullest human potential and dignity.

OBJECTIVES

·        To advocate and lobby for effective public participation in both County and national development egenda.
·        To provide a political voice to those otherwise disenfranchised Kenyans
·        To establish a platform for cooperation and solidarity in order to enhance people’s voices and visibility at both County and national level.

·        To develop relevant training materials for counseling and mentoring ordinary Kenyans to both enrepreneurship and political leadership.

·        To exploit latent talent and skills inherent in the society towards contributing to positive pursuit.

·        To engage in partnership and collaboration with like minded organization in achieving the movement’s objectives.

To achieve the above objectives, the following strategies will be employed:

·        To define BLT vision, mission and objectives to ensure they are clear, shared and owned by all the members.

·        To strengthen the BLT structures to clearly define roles, responsibilities, power and relationship in order to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the BLT movement.

·        To build capacity of leadership to effectively plan, implement and evaluate activities of BLT movement.

·        To diversify the operations and activities of the BLT movement in order to incorporate various thematic issues.

·        To develop systems and procedures in order to ensure smooth, effective and efficient operations of BLT movement across the country.

SITUATION ANALYSIS

A lot of attempts to create structured and organize movements in Kenya, have previously not produced expected results, good example being Bunge La Mwananchi. A platform that statrted as a voice of voice less, an alternative to National parliament, has over the years been reduced to a mouth piece of few politicians.

Below are some of root causes:-

·        Lack of knowledge to run
·        Misconception of BLT goals
·        Negative Political Intereference
·        Lack of secretariat
·        Leadership wrangles

STRATEGIC ISSUES FOR BLT MOVEMENT

·        Create open forums across the country for members to debate issues affecting them.

·        To convert and strengthen the existing BLM networks to BLT networks

·        Support  County and national campaigns and other advocacy actions that are geared towards uplifting the lives of ordinary citizens

·        To develop a strong and vibrant community.

·        To increase the level of interaction and exchange of information and experiences among networks.
